Overview

A not too popular loco, has some unusual bits to it. The strange truck "suspension" system can work nicely, or cause derailments depending on it's condition and if it has been lubricated.

There are 2 basic versions, pre 2002 it used the old style smoke unit, the large plug in type with the separate fan, 2002 and later the newer style compact smoke unit.

(see smoke unit page, click here).

Also, at some type the motor blocks changed from the old style to the new style.

Disassembly:

Normally you remove screws from the underside of the loco, but R.J. DeBerg says "There is one screw hidden under a hatch located on top of the hood just behind the cab/rear of cab. The hatch seems to be glued in place so you need to use a small screw driver to pry it loose.  There are 5 screws that I remember to remove underneath the loco.  There may be two also under the fuel tank.  To get to them you must remove the tank."
