Audi 2014 A8L configuration / mods
Overview
There are a lot of "hidden features" that are available in other countries that are not enabled in the NA version of the A8. Most of this seems to be to avoid lawsuits. I can't fault Audi for this, people sue each other and everyone around them for stupid things they do themselves.
I've use the VCDS system (ex VAG-COM) for years, previously on my 2002 A8L. I've been collecting information on the tweaks I can do, and the ones highlighted in green are those I have done and verified. Yellow means I want to do them, and they are not done yet.
I need to thank two people here for a lot of information I used starting this list, Jack88 from the Ross-Tech forum, and Jan from Trick77.
VCDS programming
If you don't know what this is, you should buy one, not cheap but great support. Don't buy the clone programming dongles. You will have issues and they will not support you. Go to Ross-Tech.com and buy one.

trunk remote operating - 46 - Comfort System
Close the trunk (a.k.a. boot) remotely using the key fob and/or interior trunk switch in the door (and retain the opening feature)
I did this because to close the trunk from the door switch, you had to pull and hold it until it closed, the change lets a single pull close the trunk
First go to Module 46 (central convenience), coding, long coding helper
byte 2, bit 2 "Comfort operation: Remote control active" should be checked, if it isn't, check it.
Then got to module 6D (Trunk Electrics), security access and enter security code "12345".
Then still in Module 6D, click Adaptation.
Now there are 8 channels to be concerned with, they all look pretty similar.
Basically you want to set "Tap" for closing the trunk with the door switch, and "Tap" for closing the trunk with the remote.
IDE02134-MAS04214 remote key tap open
IDE02134-MAS04215 remote key tap close
IDE02134-MAS04216 remote key touch open

IDE02136-MAS04215 remote unlocking switch tap close
IDE02136-MAS04216 remote unlocking switch touch open

defaults below:

hidden MMI menu / "green menu" - 5F - Information Electronics

to bring up the hidden menu:
press menu and car, sometimes car just a bit ahead
hold for 6 seconds or until mmi blinks
CD ripping - 5F - Information Electronics
coding >> long coding
byte 24 >> bit 5 change to 1
now select adaption

reboot mmi
so far in VCDS, no label file, cannot change byte 24...
Auxillary ventilation - 5F- Information Electronics
can set fans to run after car stops or at preset times
Disable data entry warnings at speed - 5F- Information Electronics
Allows or restricts your entering data while moving, the default is not over 15 kmh and you have to slow to 10 to re-enable.
[adaption]
speed threshold (ch 2?) speed at which if you exceed you cannot set data
default 15 (kmh), I set mine to 250 (seems a magic number or max)
speed delta (ch 3?) speed you have to "drop" to in order to re-enable data input
defauly 10 (kmh), I set mine to 250
TPMS - 5F - Information Electronics
set tire pressure monitoring system
complicated setup, I already have it enabled
VIM / Video In Motion - 5F - Information Electronics
allows video in motion
[Advanced ID - 1A] Note 1st Serial number, If there is more than one serial number field, use the first one!
[Security Access] Enter Digits 6, 13, 10, 14, 11 of the 1st Serial number, or use an online calculator as the input
Press "Do It!". If you receive a "code not valid" message try the alternate code. If neither code works it's likely that your control module doesn't support VIM.
[Adaptation - 10] -> Channel 48
press read
Set value to to 255
press test (why?)
press save
exit
Reset MMI
my 1st serial number was
phone voice control - 77 -
do not change if you have mmi voice control already
green menu / hidden menu functions
Note: many commmands need an mmi reset, mmi + top right softkey + menu hold for 2 seconds until mmi display blanks
battery status bar
apparently does not work on 3G+ systems
“car” >> “cardevextdevicelist”
Check the “Battery” checkbox
“carmenuoperation”
Set the battery value to 5
Enable Import CDs to MMI's HD
does not work on 3g+ systems
Main/Diagnose/Settings
Import Media
Set to 4 of 4 "Copy/Ripping"
CD to be ripped must be inserted in player below the mmi.
Stuff to research
First, the green menu has several important menus that control functions and menus to control the functions

this seems to be where the devices are indicated to be present or not to the MMI system. I have listed the ones that were not checked on my car. Most make sense, I don't have that hardware.

Audi interior lighting controls, found on a forum (forgot to credit the author - Sorry)
A few things to know before we start:
1) If the overhead dome lamps are on (even a little), the rearview mirror dimming feature is disabled.
2) If the rear sun shade is raised, the rearview mirror dimming feature is disabled.
3) There are 4 "patterns" in the Background Lighting menu. Only one can be used at a time. They cannot be combined to achieve a group affect, aside from the group affect that each pattern already contains.
4) The button in front of the sunroof switch, in the overhead console, will immediately cancel all interior lighting, and the rearview mirror dimming begins working immediately.
5) To access the Background Lighting menu in the MMI, push the Car button, then push the Systems button, and then select Background Lighting from the menu.
There are 4 "pattern" choices to work with; Highway, City, Cockpit, and Rear. There is also an Off selection that cancels whatever Background Lighting pattern you currently have active. Each pattern lights up specific combinations of interior lights. By dialing up or down, you increase or decrease the brightness of the lamp combination included in the selected “pattern.”
This is a list of which lamps each pattern controls:
Highway – Front & rear door strip lamps
Rear – Rear foot well lamps, rear dome lamps, and rear door strip lamps
Cockpit – Front & rear door strip lamps, front dome lamps (mirror dimming will not work), and (this one is weird but…) passenger front foot well lamp (not driver’s side)
City – All interior lamps lit to desired brightness; Front & rear door strip lamps, front & rear dome lamps (mirror dimming will not work), front & rear foot well lamps (including driver)
Now (finally, geez!), here’s the skinny on how it’s done:
1) Access the Background Lighting menu in MMI
2) Select the pattern that contains the collection of lamps you want lit, and plunge the big knob.
3) Dial up or down to the desired brightness and plunge the big knob
4) Press the Return button on the center console to save your settings and go back to the main Car (suspension) menu
